Encryption, Hashing, Signatures, and Certificates

Introduction

This lesson continues Domain 1, General Security Concepts (12% of SY0-701). Objective 1.4 asks you to explain the importance of using appropriate cryptographic solutions. Cryptography underpins secure web browsing, VPNs, disk encryption, code signing and password storage, so it also shows up in Domains 2, 3 and 4. The exam rarely asks for mathematics. It asks which tool fits a described need: protect a laptop, prove a file was not altered, secure a web server, or store passwords safely.
