In 2026 Microsoft launched a new family of certifications dedicated to AI in the enterprise: the AB series (for AI Business). Four certifications now cover the whole spectrum, from the Microsoft 365 administrator to the executive driving transformation, including the architect who designs agent-based solutions. Here is how to make sense of it and which one to aim for.
What changes: AI becomes a role of its own
Until now, Microsoft's AI certifications mostly targeted developers (Azure AI Engineer, Data Scientist). The AB series also speaks to business profiles and to architects who build solutions with Microsoft 365 Copilot, Copilot Studio, Microsoft Foundry and Dynamics 365. The common thread is clear: companies no longer just "add AI", they redesign their processes around agents that can act, with the governance that comes with it.
The four AB-series certifications
| Certification | Exam | Level | For whom |
|---|---|---|---|
| Microsoft 365 Certified: Copilot and Agent Administration Fundamentals | AB-900 | Fundamentals | Administrators who configure, secure and support Copilot and agents in Microsoft 365 |
| Microsoft Certified: AI Business Professional | AB-730 | Business | Users who improve their workflows with generative AI and Copilot, without coding |
| Microsoft Certified: AI Transformation Leader | AB-731 | Business / leadership | Decision makers who define the value of AI and drive company-wide adoption |
| Microsoft Certified: Agentic AI Business Solutions Architect | AB-100 | Expert | Architects who design secure, measurable multi-agent solutions |
A closer look at AB-100, the most demanding one
AB-100 validates the ability to design and deploy agentic-first solutions: multi-agent orchestration, extensibility with the Model Context Protocol (MCP), integration of Copilot, Foundry and Dynamics 365, security, ALM and return on investment.
- Duration: 100 minutes, passing score 700/1000.
- Domains: plan (25–30%), design (25–30%) and deploy (40–45%) AI business solutions. Deployment weighs the most: monitoring, testing, ALM, responsible AI and compliance.
- Prerequisite: besides the exam, you need one Associate-level certification from a list published by Microsoft (Power Platform, Dynamics 365, Azure AI…). Check the official page before booking.
Tip: the "deploy" domain is close to half of the exam. Do not neglect agent monitoring, test strategy and governance, which candidates often study less than design.
Which one should you choose?
- You administer Microsoft 365: start with AB-900, the technical entry point.
- You use Copilot daily without a technical background: AB-730 recognizes your skills.
- You lead an AI strategy: AB-731 is about value, adoption and governance.
- You design solutions: aim for AB-100, after an Associate certification.
How to prepare efficiently
- Start from the official study guide: every skill measured must be covered, and the weights tell you where to spend your time.
- Practice on a real environment: Copilot Studio and Microsoft Foundry offer trial environments.
- Train in exam conditions: a timer, a review step before submitting and an analysis of your mistakes by domain.
On OnLevelUp, the Agentic AI Business Solutions Architect (AB-100) course follows the official outline chapter by chapter, with quizzes and three mock exams.
